New Delhi. : Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a Cleanliness Drive today in Mujeeb Bagh Staff Colony of the university as part of Swatchhata Pakhwada being celebrated by the university from 1st to 15th September, 2024. Officiating Vice Chancellor of JMI, Prof. Mohammad Shakeel, teachers, officers, non-teaching staff, NSS volunteers & other students and residents of the colony participated in it by offering Shramdaan . The drive was highly successful as participants cleaned the entire colony where teaching and non-teaching staff of the university resides.
The cleanliness drive was organized under the supervision of Dr. Abid Hussain, NSS Program Officer & Coordinator of the Swachh Bharat Mission, JMI. It was actively supported by Prof. Neelam Sukhramani, HoD of Social Work Department, Sanitation Unit under the supervision of Dr Ayub & Mr Razi Naqvi and the Horticulture Department of the varsity. Students of the university and JMI schools, mainly Syed Abid Husain Senior Secondary School participated in large numbers to make the drive successful. Selfie Booths were also set up for the participants to take a selfie with a picture and quote of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the booths. A signature campaign was also organized during the program.
During the Swachhata Pakhwada a number of different activities like cleanliness drive, shramdaan, repair and renovation of public toilets, mass awareness programs, engagement of local celebrities in creating awareness, Swachhata Seminars, Trainings, Workshops, exhibition on waste to weather, Swachhata Rallies, Mass Swachhata Pledge, Cleaning of Ponds, Plantation Drives, signature campaign, Swachhata Thematic Paintings, campaign on discarding single use of plastic, Nukkad Natak on Swachhata theme etc. are being carried out by the university. Office of the PRO, JMI is actively disseminating information about the activities organised and creating awareness about it by using social media handles of the university and sharing them with mainstream media also.
