JMI observes Swachhta Pakhwada from September 1 to 15

:- The Department of Civil Engineering observed “Swachhta Pakhwada” on the theme ‘Swachhta hi Suraksha’ by organising a tree plantation campaign, slogan writing competition, painting competition and essay writing competition on September 15, 2022

 

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia(JMI) observed Swatchhta Pakhwada from September 1 to 15, 2022.  During this period various departments and centres of the university organized different programmes with the objective of bringing a fortnight of intense focus on the issues and practices of cleanliness with the belief that ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness’.  

The Subject Association of the Centre for Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy (CSSEIP), JMI organised a community walk through Okhla Village till the resettlement slums near Dhobi Ghat, Jamia Nagar, on Wednesday, September 14, to observe Swachhta Pakhwada, 2022.  The walk was organised under the guidance of Dr Arvinder Ansari, Honorary Director of CSSEIP, Dr Arvind Kumar, Student Advisor, Subject Association, CSSEIP, Dr Mujibur Rahman, and Dr Ayub Khan, Sanitary Inspector, JMI. The faculty, staff, and students from the centre participated in the walk through the community, collecting plastic and trash from the streets, and disposing of them properly. The participants raised awareness about the importance of sanitation and cleanliness among the residents of Dhobi Ghat slum cluster, and spoke to them about their issues and concerns. The residents took a pledge to keep their houses and surroundings clean, and the participants promised to extend a helping hand whenever needed.

The Department of Civil Engineering observed “Swachhta Pakhwada” on the theme ‘Swachhta hi Suraksha’ by organising a tree plantation campaign, slogan writing competition, painting competition and essay writing competition on September 15, 2022.  Students of M. Tech & B. Tech participated in these activities. Faculty members also participated in tree plantation campaign.    

The Department of Geography, JMI organized a Cleanliness Drive, Poster Competition, Essay and Poetry Writing competition on 14th September 2022. The Cleanliness Drive was conducted in the premises of the Department of Geography, JMI together with all the teaching, non-teaching staff and the students from different academic programs who participated with great enthusiasm. Active passion and enthusiasm were exemplified with more than 40 students from both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Geography who participated in the essay writing, poster making, and poetry writing competition conducted in the Seminar Hall of the department, led by HoD Prof. Haroon Sajjad , Dr. Hasan Raja Naqv, Subject Association Advisor,  Prof. Mary Tahir, Prof. Atiqur Rahman and all other faculty members of the department. Students were offered to for writing the essay and poetry on the topic of ‘Swacchata /Ceanliness’.

The Department of Adult and Continuing Education & Extension (DACEE),JMI which has a glorious tradition of carrying out community extension activities, organised a cleanliness drive on 10th September 2022 at Shram Vihar Slum Cluster located in Okhla.  HoD, DACEE Prof. Shikha Kapur said that a meaningful twist was given to its Swachhta Pakhwada by carrying out an extensive cleanliness drive in the slum cluster that measures poorly on hygiene and living conditions. Faculty Members of the Department Dr. Nasra Shabnam, Dr. Sameer Babu, both Associate Professors, Dr. Anwara Hashmi, Assistant Professor and Student Coordinators along with the students of M.A. Development Extension Semester I and III under the Student Coordinators Ms. Qudsiya Mehwish and Mr. Danish Malik carried out meaningful activities. Community talks on Environmental Cleanliness and Hygiene were delivered along with demonstrations on keeping surroundings clean. The enthusiastic group of students assisted by community children cleaned the common area in the slum cluster. The community people were appreciative of the DACEE’s efforts.

The Department of Psychology, JMI celebrated “Swachhta Pakhwada” with active participation of students, faculty members and administrative staff under the supervision of HoD, Prof. Sheema Aleem, Dr.Sushma Suri, Nodal officer of Swachhta Pakhwada and Dr. Abid Husain, Coordinator, Swachhta Pakhwada, JMI. Right from conceptualizing, planning, conducting and organizing the event, students actively participated in lectures organized in the department by the faculty members. The core objective of the programme was to create awareness about cleanliness and managing plastic wastes as well as its negative impact on nature. All the faculty members expressed their thoughts with different approach towards “Swachhta Mission Abhiyan” that Mahatma Gandhi had dreamt of. Swachhta pledge was taken by Prof. Sheema Aleem, faculty members and students towards making conscious efforts for sensitizing and practicing in activities which create awareness about maintaining cleanliness in thoughts, neighbourhood and throughout the country.
