JMI Hosts 6th International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ETMN-2024)

New Delhi: The Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized the 6th  International Conference on Emerging Technologies: Micro to Nano (ETMN-2024) in collaboration with Manipal University, Jaipur. The two-day conference held on November 22nd & 23rd, 2024, served as a platform for global researchers, academicians, and industry leaders to exchange ideas and foster innovation in materials and nanotechnology. This biennial event, which began in 2013, continues to connect researchers across Nations and Continents. A total of 135 high- quality research papers from a pool of 170 submissions were presented during the conference with the introduction of a new Technological Leadership Award (TLA) to honor extraordinary achievements in innovation and leadership. Another feature of the conference was the exhibition of products developed by the students, researchers and principal investigators at various institutions.

The Inaugural Ceremony, held at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Auditorium, started with a welcome address and conference overview by the General Chair, Dr. Tarikul Islam. Speaking at the event, Prof. Islam highlighted the global significance of ETMN-2024, emphasizing that the conference embodies the spirit of overcoming geographical barriers.

With participants from premier institutions like IITs, NITs, and global universities such as Purdue University (USA), Samara University (Russia), and CEMES-CNRS (France), ETMN- 2024 reflected  a truly global perspective on advancements in micro and nano technologies.”

Chief Guest of the inaugural session, eminent scientist and Member of Niti Aayog Dr. V.K. Saraswat, shared insights on the critical role of micro and nano technologies in India’s defence, energy and technology landscapes. He also presented a keynote talk about the emerging technologies across the world and in India and the future road map policy of the Indian government on Emerging Technologies on semiconductor devices, healthcare, e- mobility, and energy etc.

Guest of Honor Prof. D.P. Agrawal, Ex UPSC Chairman, highlighted the transformative potential of interdisciplinary research in emerging technologies.

JMI Vice Chancellor and Chief Patron of the conference JMI Vice Chancellor Prof. Mazhar Asif, emphasized JMI’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and research innovation. He emphasises the JMI’s rich tradition by offering gifts to the dignitaries on the dais.

Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Mini S. Thomas, who was the Co-Patron of the conference, applauded the collaborative spirit of faculty and organizing committee driving ETMN- 2024. Prof. Shahida

Khatoon, Head of Electrical Engineering Department and General Co-Chair of the conference applauded the department’s legacy of exceptional innovation in technology.

The conference also featured the Technology Leadership Award presentation to Prof. Hiranmay Saha, Chair Professor and Coordinator at the Centre Of Excellence For Green Energy and Sensor Systems at IIEST Shibpur in recognition of his pioneering contributions to technological innovation and transforming India’s sustainable Energy systems. ETMN-2024 hosted 3 keynote addresses by distinguished global researchers, 19 invited talks from eminent scientists, 5 technical tracks, managed by experts from IITs, NITs, and leading universities, covering topics ranging from organic nanocomposites to AI-powered IoT systems. The event promises to foster meaningful collaborations and pave the way for groundbreaking research in the micro to nano domains.

The valedictory ceremony began with a speech delivered by Prof. Shabana Mehfuz, Publicity Chair for ETMN 2024. She took the opportunity to express heartfelt gratitude to the attendees and contributors who made the event a resounding success. She acknowledged the immense efforts of the organizing committee, with particular recognition for Prof. Mazhar Asif, Vice Chancellor and Chief Patron; Prof. Mini S. Thomas, Co-Patron and Dean; Prof. Shahida Khatoon, General Co-Chair; Prof. Shakeb A. Khan, Technical Chair; and Prof. Mohammad Ajmal Khan, for their collective leadership in shaping the conference.


A special mention was made for Dr. Tarikul Islam, the General Chair of ETMN 2024, whose exceptional leadership and tireless efforts were instrumental in organizing such a prestigious event. Under his guidance, the organizing team delivered a world-class conference that not only showcased the latest advancements in micro and nano technologies but also brought honor to the Department of Electrical Engineering and JMI. His vision and dedication ensured that the conference fulfilled its mission of connecting researchers across the nation and world-wide, fostering international collaborations, and advancing the global conversation on emerging technologies.

The valedictory ceremony also included the presentation of commemorative momentos to the session chairs, organizing committee members, and speakers, recognizing their valuable contributions to the success of the event. The tokens of appreciation highlighted the dedication and teamwork that made ETMN 2024 a collective achievement.

As part of the ceremony, the Best Paper Awards for each session were announced, recognizing outstanding research in various tracks. Additionally, the conference presented two Best Poster Awards and three Best Product Awards from the exhibition, celebrating innovative research and technological advancements.

The ceremony featured a feedback session where invited speakers and distinguished guests shared their reflections on the conference. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants commending ETMN 2024 for successfully fulfilling its mission of bringing together leading experts and researchers from across nations and continents. Attendees highlighted the high quality of presentations, the broad range of topics discussed, and the engaging discussions that took place during each session.

The final vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Shakeb A. Khan, Technical Chair of ETMN 2024, who expressed his sincere gratitude to all participants, speakers, sponsors, organizers, and volunteers for their unwavering support and dedication. He emphasized that the success of the conference was a collective effort, and thanked everyone for contributing to the event’s impactful discussions and collaborative spirit.
