New Delhi: The Department of Geography of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in collaboration with National Institute of Disaster Management, Ministry of Home Affairs is going to conduct a  development training programme on Disaster Risk Reduction from August 1 to 5, 2022. 

Training of faculties is one of the key elements in formulating appropriate Disaster Reduction Risk (DRR) strategies in order to enable societies and youth to become engaged in the adoption of suitable and conscious risk management and reduction of vulnerability. To effectively integrate disaster risk reduction and management into teaching and learning practices at universities, needs a full integration of Disaster Reduction Risk and Management into the curriculum of various ongoing programs/courses at university level. Thus, education programs become a mechanism to prepare stakeholders from a perspective of strengthening values, and developing a culture of disaster management not only among the student community, but among the society at large. 

The objectives of training programme would be:

• To provide an in-depth knowledge about the principles, concepts and practices of mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction for resilience building and better adaptation in urban centres

• To enable the participants to provide inputs towards institutionalization and integration of DRR in various streams of development at national level including higher education

• To contribute to the development of capacities, knowledge and skills of teaching faculties/ professionals and academicians for effective management of disasters at local level (in urban context) by means of developing disaster management plans

Certificates will be awarded to the participants on successful completion of the five-day course. The students need to register themselves for the training programme before July 14, 2022.
