
New Delhi. : The Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a guest lecture titled ‘Imaging Biology: Man and Machine’ by Dr. Sanjay M. Mallya, Professor and Chair of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Diagnostic & Surgical Sciences Division, UCLA School of Dentistry.
The event started with the dean expressing her gratitude to Dr. Mallya for his time and Prof. Mandeep Kaur introducing our honourable guest speaker. A notable segment of the lecture was dedicated to the importance of understanding the biology behind radio diagnosis. Dr. Mallya also discussed the current trends and future possibilities of AI-driven imaging, highlighting its potential to enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve patient outcomes. He also addressed the ethical considerations and the need for a balanced approach in leveraging technology in medical practice.
The lecture was well-received by about a hundred delegates which comprised distinguished faculty members, Dr. Vishal Dang, past president Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology, and Dr. Sharad Sahai, an eminent Oral and Maxillofacial radiologist from NCR, and post-graduate students from various dental colleges like Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, IDST (Modinagar), ITS (Greater Noida), PGIDS Rohtak, Shree Bankey Bihari Dental College, DJ Dental College (Meerut), Subharti Dental College (Meerut), SGT (Gurgaon), and dental interns, who appreciated Dr. Mallya's expertise and his ability to convey complex topics in a comprehensible manner. The lecture was followed by an extensive interactive discussion between the guest speaker and the delegates.
In closing remarks, Prof. Virender Gombra delivered the vote of thanks. The guest lecture was a resounding success, leaving the attendees enriched with new knowledge and perspectives. It was a testament to the Faculty of Dentistry’s commitment to academic excellence and its dedication to providing students and faculty with opportunities to learn from leading experts in the field.
