IIT Roorkee's 24th Convocation Celebrating Excellence and Innovation

ROORKEE, 27th July 2024: IIT Roorkee marked a historic milestone with its 24th Convocation, showcasing significant achievements and milestones of the institute and its graduates. A total of 2513 students (1931 male and 582 female) of the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee received their degrees in various disciplines today during the Convocation Ceremony.

A significant highlight of this year’s convocation is the remarkable increase in the proportion of graduating female students, soaring from 18.84% in 2022 to an impressive 23.16% in 2024, reflecting IIT Roorkee's steadfast commitment to gender diversity and inclusion.

In recognition of academic excellence, Achintya Nath, a B.Tech. graduate in Computer Science and Engineering, earned the prestigious President's Gold Medal for achieving the highest CGPA among UG students admitted through JEE Advanced. Additionally, Parth Sarthi Mishra, a B.Tech. graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering, received the Director's Gold Medal for his outstanding all-round performance among UG students admitted through JEE Advanced.

The convocation was graced by the esteemed Ms. Debjani Ghosh, President of NASSCOM, who honored us with her presence as the Chief Guest. The event was presided over by Shri. BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairperson of the Board of Governors, who lent his distinguished presence to the ceremony. Prof. K.K. Pant, the esteemed Director of IIT Roorkee, presented the annual report, encapsulating the institute’s stellar accomplishments and forward-looking vision.

Welcoming the participants to the 24th Convocation, Shri. BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Roorkee, said, “It is my honour to congratulate all our graduates on this momentous occasion. Your hard work, dedication, and passion have brought you to this milestone, and I am confident that the knowledge and skills you have acquired here will serve you well in all your future endeavours. Today, you join a distinguished lineage of IIT Roorkee alumni who have made significant societal contributions. Remember, this is just the beginning of your journey, and the world awaits your innovations and leadership. Congratulations once again, and best wishes for your bright future."

IIT Roorkee has a rich legacy of over 175 years, drawing talented students from all over the country and abroad for its undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs.

Presenting the Convocation report, Prof. K.K. Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduating class and their families. He highlighted the institute’s exceptional year, including securing 148 patents and advancing its QS World Rankings from 369th to 335th. Prof. Pant emphasized the significance of receiving the Most Innovative Institute Award from the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for the fourth consecutive year and the Best Clean and Green Campus Award. He noted the strengthened industry-academia collaborations, the inauguration of the Micron Semiconductor Lab, and the establishment of the Centre of Excellence on AARTI with the Ministry of Heavy Industries to advance automotive technology and innovation. Additionally, Prof. Pant reflected on the impactful events hosted throughout the year, such as National Technology Day, the Uttarakhand Plastics Summit, and the Empowering India celebration, which have significantly inspired young innovators, promoted environmental sustainability, showcased student creativity, and fostered industry-academia integration.

In his address, Prof. Pant stated, “My congratulations to the graduating class and their families. IIT Roorkee has a rich legacy in engineering and sciences, and our recent achievements underscore our commitment to innovation and excellence. With record patents, prestigious awards, and advancements in technology and infrastructure, we continue to lead in research and development. Our events throughout the year have substantially impacted society by inspiring young minds, promoting sustainability, and advancing industry-academia collaboration. These milestones reflect our ongoing pursuit of progress and our dedication to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.”
