- A total of 2614 students will receive degrees during the Convocation
ROORKEE, 2nd September 2025: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee will be celebrating its 25th Convocation on Friday, 5th September 2025, with Dr. Jitendra Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Science and Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Earth Sciences; Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office; Minister of State, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Minister of State, Department of Atomic Energy; Minister of State, Department of Space, as the Chief Guest. Joining him, Prof. (Dr.) Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, IAS (Retd.), Former Chairperson NCVET, Govt of India, Former Additional Chief Secretary, Punjab, will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman of the Board of Governors, will preside over the event. Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Govt. of India, will be the Chief guest for the Award Ceremony scheduled to be held during the second session on 05.09.2025.
Dr. Jitendra Singh is a physician-turned-politician renowned for his distinguished academic and professional background in diabetes and endocrinology. Elected successively to the 16th, 17th and 18th Lok Sabha from Udhampur Constituency, Dr. Singh has held various key portfolios over the years, including Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Earth Sciences; Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office; Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions; Minister of State in the Department of Atomic Energy, and Minister of State in the Department of Space. Dr. Singh’s unique scientific insights and administrative expertise positions him as key contributor to shaping India’s science, technology, and governance landscape.
Prof. (Dr.) Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, IAS (Retd.), has provided his services as the former Chairperson NCVET, and former Additional Chief Secretary, Punjab, Govt. of India. He is currently a Visiting Professor at IIT Roorkee and IIT Ropar, and also serves as Professor of Practice at Management Development Institute, Gurugram.
In anticipation of the grand event, a press conference was held today, 2nd September 2025, at the Senate Hall, James Thomson Building, IIT Roorkee. The press meet was chaired by Prof. K.K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, with Prof. Udai Pratap Singh, Deputy Director, and Prof. N.K. Navani, Dean of Academic Affairs in attendance.
During the press conference, Prof. K.K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, said, “Convocation is the celebration of the hard work and perseverance of our students, and also signifies their transformation into future Entrepreneurs and innovators. We are deeply honoured to welcome Hon’ble Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh as the Chief Guest of the Convocation and Prof. (Dr.) Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi as the Guest of Honour. We are also looking forward to celebrating the Award Ceremony led by Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power. Their presence reflects the spirit of academic excellence, innovation, and national service that IIT Roorkee stands for, and their guidance will inspire our graduating students as they step into a new phase of life.”
Inviting the stakeholders to be a part of the Convocation Ceremony Prof. Udai Pratap Singh, Deputy Director, IIT Roorkee, said, “We warmly welcome all stakeholders to join us in this Convocation Ceremony. Beyond celebrating the achievements of our graduating students, this occasion reflects IIT Roorkee’s 178-year legacy of excellence, innovation, and service to the nation. As the Institute continues to expand its global footprint in research, innovation, and education, we remain committed to nurturing future leaders and driving progress for society at large.”
Sharing information about the graduating class, Prof. Navani, Dean of Academic Affairs, IIT Roorkee, said, “This year, 2,614 students will be awarded degrees, comprising 1,267 undergraduates, 847 postgraduates, and 500 PhD scholars (including joint and dual degrees). Notably, among them are 602 female graduates, including 248 undergraduates, 176 postgraduates, and 178 PhD scholars. Each graduate stands as a testament to IIT Roorkee’s enduring legacy of knowledge, innovation, and societal impact.”
During the press conference, Prof. K.K. Pant also launched a promotional video for the Convocation, highlighting the event's details, the achievements of the institute, and the accomplishments of its students.
