
CHENNAI, : IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation is partnering with L’Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC), a French university, to offer a First-of-its-kind course in
Indian Civil Aviation industry on ‘Aviation Safety Management’. The course, supported by Airbus tenhance Safety education in the region, is designed to support the rapid development of aviation safety in India.
This course targets professionals working in the air transport industry. It is designed to train Safety Managers and Experts to lead, assess, improve and promote Safety Performance in various organizations in the Air Transport System.
Air Transport is a complex and rapidly changing macro-system. Safety is supported by a set of regulatory requirements, already implemented for many years but in constant evolution. Beyond regulations and technical developments, it is necessary to engage all actors at all levels of organizations so that they can contribute positively to Safety.
Safety Management remains a major challenge and requires adapted skill,including soft skills communication, leadership and assertiveness.

Welcoming this collaboration between IITM and ENAC in a critical sector, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, said, “We are delighted to work with ENAC - a 70+ years organization focused
on airline safety management and its related process. IIT Madras and ENAC have the same agenda of imparting education and skill and to help the community in general and the country as a whole.”
Prof. V. Kamakoti added, “Our relationship will touch every passenger flying in and out of India and we are delighted to be part of such an initiative. There is a need for a consistent way of education and skilling as the volume of travel increases frequently and associated challenges to the safety of the industry.
We strongly believe that our workforces leverage this program and equip themselves to help travellers.”
The Principle Characteristics of the program include
- A Two-Year program with One week per Two months in-person program during the First year
- and one week per month during the 2nd year in-person program
- Faculty will be traveling from France to conduct the courses all throughout the program
- Includes a six-month project or Dissertation
- Working professionals in the Aviation industry, Senior and Mid-level managers in state
- authorities run aviation operators
Highlighting the need for such courses, Dr. M.J. Shankar Raman, Chief Executive Officer, Pravartak, said, “Civil Aviation is one of the fastest growing industries in the last two decades. Digitization has shrunk the world bringing in huge benefits for the travel industry. The Airline industry's exponential growth comes with its own set of challenges. Shankar Raman added, “This course provided by ENAC and IITM Pravartak targets working professionals from the industry on safety management and has been exclusively brought to the Indian market.
