JODHPUR, Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur has conducted 1st Internet of Things and Applications Workshop (IoTA 2023), a thrilling two-day event on 19th-20th August 2023 in the campus. The workshop featured talks, by the eminent speakers from academia, industry, and R&D organizations, focusing on the above IoT applications. The attendees got a chance to unlock the wealth of wisdom, gain unique perspectives, and learn from the esteemed speakers. The speakers were Dr. Vijay Kovvali, IISc Bangalore, Dr. Punit Rathore, IISc Bangalore, Dr. Manoj Kumar, STMicroelectronics, Noida, Prof. Michael Cheffena, NTNU Norway, Prof. Sudip Misha, IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Ajay Agarwal, IIT Jodhpur and Dr. Sanjay Singh, CSIR-CEERI.
The topic of discussion during Internet of Things and Applications Workshop (IoTA 2023) were Industrial IoT, IoT in Healthcare, Smart Homes and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
Talking about the significance of IoTA 2023, Prof. Santanu Chaudhury, Director, IIT Jodhpur, said, "At the heart of the IIT's origin lies the evolution of sensor networks, paving the way for transformative technology. The establishment of communication protocols has been the cornerstone, facilitating the convergence of processing at the IoT edge. With the advent of 5G, not only does the tower itself evolve, but also the influx of data from multiple sources. IoT encompasses sensor integration, transcending into a realm of multimedia data transmission. Its wide-ranging applications span from real-time gaming to diverse domains, underscoring its vast potential."
Dr. Manoj from ST Microelectronics mentioned that the massive movement in IoT is a result of global megatrends and emphasised that smart home represents the largest block of IoT devices in future.
Prof. Sudip Misra from IIT Kharagpur emphasised the role of IoT in Healthcare highlighting the use of computing devices with software solutions to serve patients from neglected populations.
Prof. Ajay Agarwal, Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Jodhpur, in his talk concluded that to realize POC and early diagnostic solutions, various engineering sciences, biosciences and medical sciences have a role to play.
Prof. Vijay Kovvali, an invited speaker for the workshop, who is working on intelligent transportation systems for smart cities said, "Intelligent transport systems pave the way for smarter cities, seamlessly weaving technology into urban mobility for a more efficient and sustainable future."
The workshop successfully achieved its aims by shedding light on the immense potential of IoT applications, igniting motivation among participants to explore research avenues and engage in product development within this dynamic field. Serving as a fertile ground for budding researchers, the event facilitated insightful exchanges of ideas, enabling robust discussions on challenges, solutions, and emerging research opportunities.
Expert talks provided participants with up-to-date insights into the latest developments in IoT applications, enriching their knowledge and perspective. As a result, the workshop played a pivotal role in inspiring new realms of research, nurturing the aspirations of young minds, and cultivating an environment of collaboration, discourse, and future student exchanges in the captivating realm of IoT applications.
Prof. Sampat Raj Vadera, Deputy Director, IIT Jodhpur, said, "In the realm of applications, the network of senses demands care. Best wishes to the workshop from Vijay Kovvali, exploring intelligent transport systems for smarter cities. ITS reduces congestion, enhances safety, and reshapes mobility through advanced information and cooperative systems. Step by step, ITS advances towards a smarter, safer transportation future."
