Bengaluru : The Centre for BioSystems Science and Engineering (BSSE, part of the Indian Institute of Science) will be organizing its 9th annual symposium from January 19 to 21 (Thursday to Saturday) and will serve to inform students and corporations about recent developments in bioengineering, especially in biomedicine, immunoengineering, and systems biology. The symposium will also act as a platform that shows the technological advances in these areas through various talks.
The symposium will also be holding an ideathon and a poster session. The ideathon’s theme is translational medicine and will be used to showcase potential ideas needed to solve unfulfilled needs in the Indian healthcare system. Ideas presented must be multidisciplinary and must address a problem. It will be open to undergraduates, junior research fellowships, project assistants, post graduates, PhD students and postdocs and is a team based event (minimum one member, maximum three members). Teams must create new and innovative ideas and plagiarism is not tolerated. Ideas will be graded on social impact, technical competence (how complex/advanced/simple a solution is), commercial viability (i.e., business potential), and innovativeness. The final day of application for the ideathon is January 12 (Thursday) and will be held on January 19.
Multiple speakers will also be talking about the various subjects and areas mentioned above on January 20 and 21 from 9:15 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. The poster session will also be taking place on these two days, from 3 P.M. to 4 P.M., during a tea break. Both the ideathon and lectures will be held in the Biological Sciences building on the IISc campus, while the poster session will take place on the ground floor open area of the same building.
