Guest Lecture on Destigmatizing Mental Health organised at CUH

Mahenderagarh : The Wellness Clinic, Department of Psychology at The Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh organized a significant guest lecture titled "Breaking the Silence: Destigmatizing Mental Health Among University Students". The lecture was delivered by Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Associate Professor at the University of Allahabad.

Dr. Kumar addressed the pressing issue of mental health stigma prevalent among university students, emphasizing the importance of open dialogue and support systems. His insightful presentation shed light on various aspects of mental health, encouraging students to prioritize their well-being and seek assistance when needed.

Dr. Kumar highlighted the necessity of recognizing and accepting mental illness. He pointed out that even students studying psychology often hesitate to share their own mental health struggles. His lecture was effectively supported by statistics and data, underscoring the gravity of the issue, including the alarming number of student suicides.

Dr. Kumar stressed the importance of self-focus over external comparisons, urging students to understand their potential and capacity to handle daily stressors, and to reflect on their contributions to society. He identified the primary cause of mental health stigma as the communication patterns prevalent within educational institutions. Assertive styles play an important role in promoting mental health.

The event was attended by esteemed faculty members, including Dr.Pardeep Kumar, Dr. Ravi Kumar, Dr. Vishnu, Dr.Divya, and Dr. Sneha. The Head of the Department, Dr.PayalChandel, provided guidance and support throughout the lecture, underscoring the department's commitment to promoting mental health awareness and support among students.

The guest lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session, providing students the opportunity to engage directly with Dr. Sanjay Kumar and delve deeper into the complexities of mental health issues impacting university life.
