Haryana: The M.Pharm students of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh published an article entitled “Targeting endoplasmic reticulum stress using natural products in neurological disorders” in a reputed International Journal of Elsevier publication: Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews having Impact factor 9.05 under the supervision of Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Head and Associate Professor, and Dr. Ashok Jangra, Assistant Professor. Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Haryana, Mahendergarh congratulated the department and authors and appreciated the efforts made by the students and teachers. He said that the use of herbal medicine has gained a lot of interest for their therapeutic potential in the treatment of several diseases since ancient times. Publication of articles in a reputed journal provides international recognition of our University as well as researchers at the world level. Prof. Neelam Sangwan, Dean, SIAS and Dean Research also praised the department for this achievement.
The article highlighted and summarized the literature on natural products which are effective in the treatment of various neurological disorders by targeting endoplasmic reticulum stress. Dr. Dinesh Kumar, Corresponding author of the article said that endoplasmic reticulum stress occurs when the capacity of the endoplasmic reticulum to fold proteins becomes saturated.
Endoplasmic reticulum stress has been implicated in the pathogenesis of numerous neurological disorders such as cerebral ischemia, Parkinson's disease, and Alzheimer's disease. Dr. Ashok Jangra, first author of the article said that our nature is a rich source of medicine. Natural products targeting these signaling pathways may provide new therapeutic avenues for neurological diseases. The article provides alternative drug treatment for neurodegenerative disorders.
