Abu Dhabi, September 2024 – His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, officially inaugurated the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Abu Dhabi (IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi), marking the launch of the first international campus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. The institution is set to play a pivotal role in advancing the emirate’s higher education ecosystem and strengthening ties between the UAE and India.
During the inauguration, Sheikh Khaled witnessed the signing of strategic partnerships between IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi, its home campus IIT-Delhi, and several leading universities in Abu Dhabi, including Khalifa University, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, and Zayed University. These partnerships are designed to foster collaboration in research, academic programs, and student and faculty exchanges, further enhancing the educational landscape of the emirate.
The new campus will offer a range of academic programs, including Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degrees in Energy Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering, as well as a master's program in Energy Transition and Sustainability (ETS). These programs are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to address global challenges in energy and technology.
Sheikh Khaled emphasized the importance of IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi in realizing the UAE leadership's vision of establishing Abu Dhabi as a global hub for education and research. He highlighted the role of the new campus in supporting the emirate's ongoing efforts to tackle climate change and produce future sustainability leaders.
The establishment of IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi follows an agreement signed in July 2023 between the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, IIT Delhi, and the Ministry of Education of India, witnessed by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative complements the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and reflects the shared commitment of both nations to prioritize educational excellence and innovation as key drivers of sustainable development and economic growth.
Sheikh Khaled was accompanied by several high-ranking officials, including His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies, Her Excellency Shamma Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Development, and His Excellency Sunjay Sudhir, Indian Ambassador to the UAE, among others.
