CBSE Stops Issuing Physical Migration Certificates for Classes 10 & 12; Now Available via DigiLocker

CBSE will no longer issue physical migration certificates for Class 10 and 12 students. From this year, students will get digitally signed migration certificates free of cost via DigiLocker.

New Delhi, October 15, 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a major digital shift — it will no longer issue physical migration certificates for Class 10 and Class 12 students. Beginning this academic year, students will receive digitally signed migration certificates through DigiLocker, the government’s secure digital platform for official documents.

These digital certificates carry equal legal validity as their physical counterparts and are accepted by all higher educational institutions (HEIs) across India.

This initiative aligns with the University Grants Commission (UGC) directive, which instructs universities and institutions to recognize academic documents available on the National Academic Depository (NAD) and DigiLocker as valid and authentic.

Migration Certificates Now Free of Cost

In a student-friendly update, CBSE has made the migration certificate free of charge. Once exam results are declared, the digitally signed certificates will be automatically uploaded to students’ DigiLocker accounts, allowing easy access anytime, anywhere.

For those who still need a printed version during this transition phase, CBSE has provided an option through the Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS) portal — cbseit.in
.
Students can apply online, and the verified document will be dispatched to their registered address.

How to Download CBSE Migration Certificate 2025 via DigiLocker

  • Visit the DigiLocker website
  •  or open the DigiLocker mobile app.
  • Log in using your registered credentials.
  • Set up your security PIN (if not already done).
  • Go to the “Issued Documents” section.
  • Click on CBSE Documents → Migration Certificate.
  • Download and save the certificate for future use.

Note: CBSE has introduced a six-digit access code for activating student DigiLocker accounts. Schools are responsible for distributing these codes. Students who have not received their codes should contact their school administration.

What is a Migration Certificate?

A migration certificate is an official document issued by an educational board confirming that a student has completed their studies under that board and is eligible to transfer to another institution or board. It is often required for admission into universities, colleges, or other education boards.

Digital Transformation in Education

The move to fully digital migration certificates is another step in CBSE’s ongoing digital transformation, ensuring transparency, accessibility, and data security for millions of students nationwide.

By integrating with DigiLocker and NAD, CBSE aims to eliminate manual delays, reduce paperwork, and promote a faster, paperless, and eco-friendly documentation process.
