New Delhi, March 28, 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) launched the Parenting Calendar for the Academic Session 2025-26 at its headquarters in Delhi. The launch event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including CBSE Chairman Shri Rahul Singh, Secretary Shri Himanshu Gupta, and Controller of Exams Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj.
The event saw participation of members of the Committee Members responsible for developing the Parenting Calendar. Ms. Anuradha Joshi (Convener), Principal, Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Delhi; Ms. Minakshi Kushwaha, Principal, Birla Vidya Niketan, Delhi; Ms. Richa Agnihotri, Principal, Sanskriti School, Delhi; Dr. Annie Koshy, Principal, St. Mary's School, Delhi; Dr. Paramjit Singh, Principal, Army Public School, Ambala Cantt; Dr. Diganta Halder, Principal, Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti, Guwahati; and Ms. Manju Arif, Principal, Delhi Public School, Bangalore North were presentat CBSE HQ and Dr. Swati Popat Vats, Dr. Nivedita Ganguly, and Ms. Rekha Krishnan joined the event virtually.
Highlighting the significance of this initiative, around 32,000 Principals, teachers, counselors , wellness teachers, parents and other stakeholders from CBSE-affiliated schools across India attended the launch online via YouTube.
A Collaborative Effort to Strengthen School-Parent Partnerships
CBSE Chairman Shri Rahul Singh lauded the collaborative efforts behind the Parenting Calendar, emphasizing its role as a guiding resource rather than a prescriptive document. He described it as an essential bridge fostering communication and collaboration between parents and educators. The four-section framework, designed with grade-specific activities, aligns with the Indian educational context to enhance student well-being. Schools are encouraged to implement it as a flexible template suited to their needs.
CBSE Secretary Shri Himanshu Gupta underscored the need for greater parental involvement in education to bridge gaps in learning. He noted that the Parenting Calendar provides grade-specific activities to foster holistic student development. Stressing that education is a shared responsibility, he urged parents, schools, and students to collaborate, ensuring meaningful student growth.
Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Exams, expressed appreciation for the committee’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of integrating the Parenting Calendar into school curricula with active participation from all stakeholders.
Key Features of the Parenting Calendar
Ms. Anuradha Joshi, Convener of the Committee, elaborated on the evidence-based approach behind the calendar’s development, noting that survey insights were incorporated to ensure its relevance and practical application. The calendar follows the 4R framework—Relationship Building, Rejoicing, Reflection, and Reinforcement—offering grade-specific activities that foster parent-child engagement and holistic development.
Grade-Specific Activities
The Parenting Calendar includes interactive, skill-based, and reflective activities tailored for different grades:
- Nursery & Kindergarten: Family bonding through storytelling, music, puzzles, and DIY science experiments.
- Grades 1-2: Outdoor learning, traditional games, and STEM challenges.
- Grades 3-5: Science experiments, cultural activities, and role-reversal days where children teach parents new skills.
- Grades 6-8: Skill swaps, collaboration sessions, and sustainable project challenges.
- Grades 9-10: Career mentoring, digital detox initiatives, and arts participation.
- Grades 11-12: Career mentorship, financial literacy challenges, and family value exercises.
Strengthening Parent-Child Bonds for Holistic Education
The Parenting Calendar promotes parent-child bonding activities that enhance emotional and academic growth. By involving parents in their children’s education, it strengthens relationships and provides valuable learning insights. Schools are encouraged to adopt and customize activities to align with their academic calendars and student needs.
Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Parenting Calendar extends learning beyond the classroom, reinforcing CBSE’s commitment to holistic education.
