Bengaluru: Ten days ago, the Orchids school which is in Magadi road was closed as it was found to be running without permit.

Now another FIR has been filed against Sarjapur road branch of Orchids International School in Bengaluru running without any license. Few days ago, the Orchids school branch in Magadi road was closed for the same reason.

Bengaluru South (4) Block Education Officer (BEO)filed a police complaint against the Orchids School in Haraluru village. “We received complaints that the school is conducting classes although its application seeking permission was rejected. After verifying this, a police complaint was lodged,” said BEO DR Ramamurthy.

Unlike the Magadi branch, authorities have not sealed the Haraluru branch as they still have the permission to run pre-primary sections. The Haraluru had more than 70 students from class 1-6 and have been shifted to nearby schools.

Reacting to the recurrence of the incident, staff of Orchids school said, “We have applied for the necessary permissions/licenses/ authorisations from the state education department, and we were expecting the approvals. Based on our ongoing construction work and looking at our infrastructure and brand name, many parents have shown interest to enrol their kids. It was only recently we received a rejection intimation from them due to some clarifications required and thereby we have re-applied and sought for all the approvals”.

The school is hopeful that they would receive the permission shortly. “In the interim period, we are redirecting the parents to other nearby Orchids branches ensuring the continuity for their children’s education and they will receive all the services offered at our school as per our standard practices.”

Orchids also added that it is “a law abiding and responsible” chain that has over 60 branches across India. Cricketer Rahul Dravid, the current head coach of the national team, signed up as Orchid’s brand ambassador.

Department order checks

Meanwhile, the department of public instruction has directed its officials to visit the schools in their jurisdiction and verify documents. This measure is to verify whether the schools are functioning illegally. Officials have been asked to release the list of the schools that are unauthorised and file police complaints against them.

Alongside, they are also asked to verify if there are any syllabus violations. “There are schools with permission for state syllabus, but they teach central syllabus. Officers should also look for such violations and initiate action”, the circular stated.
