NEET: Assam gets approval for 12th medical college; to admit 100 MBBS students: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Sarma took to Twitter and termed the development a historic accomplishment for the state.

 

Guwahati : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that the number of medical colleges in the state will increase to 12 with a new one at Nalbari getting approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to start the MBBS course from the academic session, 2023-24.

Sarma took to Twitter and termed the development a historic accomplishment for the state. He wrote, “Delighted to share that Nalbari Medical College has been recognised by National Medical Commission with an approval to admit 100 MBBS students.”

The Nalbari Medical College will be under Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences and have an annual intake of 100 MBBS students.State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, in a statement, said with the latest approval, the total number of MBBS seats in the state will increase to 1,500. 

The Assam government, he said, has set a target of increasing the number of medical colleges in the state to 24 by 2026  Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government also informed that there will be an increment of 1300 MBBS seats in government medical colleges and 13 new medical colleges will begin their operations from the academic year 2023-24.
