IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Records 400% Enrolment Surge in Second Year

Significant growth reflects rising global interest in STEM education and Indo-UAE academic collaboration.

New Delhi. :  The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi’s international campus in Abu Dhabi has witnessed an impressive 400% rise in student enrolment within just one year of its launch. Enrolment figures jumped from 20 students in the inaugural year to 80 in the current academic session.

The diverse student body includes around 13 Emirati students in the undergraduate programme and 17 students in the master's programme, indicating growing regional interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.

The campus offers specialised courses in energy, sustainability, and artificial intelligence, in collaboration with leading local institutions such as Khalifa University and Mohamed Bin Zayed University.

Strengthening Indo-UAE Educational Ties

Launched in January 2024, IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi is the first international campus of the IIT system. Its establishment marks a milestone in strengthening India-UAE educational and strategic ties. The initiative is part of a broader vision to expand access to world-class higher education for students from India, the UAE, and other Middle Eastern countries.

According to an official statement, IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi is committed to supporting the UAE’s national sustainability goals and aims to foster innovation through academic programmes, research collaborations, and student and faculty exchange initiatives.

The campus was inaugurated in the presence of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, underscoring the significance of the Indo-Emirati partnership in higher education.
