CAP 2018 to be Conducted by IIM Rohtak for Admission to 9 New IIMs

IIM Rohtak is going to conduct the Common Admission Process (CAP) offering admissions to the management courses at the new 9 IIMs for the academic session 2018-20. These 9 IIMs are amongst the 13 new IIMs, which have been on board to participate in CAP 2018 to be organized by IIM Rohtak.

These 9 IIMs include IIM Kashipur, IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Raipur, IIM Rohtak, IIM Ranchi, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Trichy, IIM Sirmaur and IIM Udaipur. This will the second consecutive year when IIM Rohtak is conducting CAP. In 2017 also, IIM Rohtak had conducted CAP for these 9 IIMs successfully.

Common Admission Test (CAT) is a centralized online exam that is held in India. The test is used to evaluate the candidates based on the Verbal Ability (VA), Quantitative Ability (QA), Data Interpretation (DI), Reading Comprehension (RC), Logical Reasoning (LR) and other miscellaneous factors.

Students shortlisted for older IIMs will not have to appear for CAP because they will have the different counselling process. CAP uses the CAT score for carrying out the admissions to the postgraduate business administration courses at various IIMs. In the past few years, CAP has been conducted by IIM Trichy, IIM Udaipur and IIM Kashipur apart from IIM Rohtak.

Four New IIMs Still out of CAP 2017

The CAT 2017 examination was conducted by IIM Lucknow and held on November 26, 2017 and all the sets of exam papers along with answer keys have already been released on the official website on December 07, 2017.

The official results of CAT will be announced somewhere in the second week of January 2018. IIM Rohtak will obtain the scores of candidates shortlisted for CAP by the 9 IIMs directly from IIM Lucknow once the results are released.

These candidates will be informed in advance by IIM Rohtak. The remaining 4 new IIMs would not participate in CAP 2017. These include IIM JammuIIM NagpurIIM Sirmaur and IIM Visakhapatnam. These are mentored by IIM Lucknow, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Lucknow and IIM Bangalore respectively.

The CAT scores of the candidates eligible for these remaining 4 new IIMs will be directly sent to by their mentor IIMs. The mentor IIMs will be responsible for conducting the admissions of those students.

How to Appear in CAP 2018?

CAP 2018 for the specified new IIMs will contain two stages before the final selection for admission. The first stage is Written Analysis Test (WAT) and the second one is Personal Interview (PI). The Group Discussion (GD) round will not be there in CAP.

Candidates shortlisted for CAP 2018 will be able to check their CAP 2018 dates on website for the specified IIM. Each of the 9 new IIMs will shortlist the candidates for CAP 2018 individually and independent of each other. Candidates will also be informed on their registered e-mail Id after two weeks from the result declaration of CAT 2017.

Candidates who are not shortlisted by the 9 new IIMs will not receive any such communication. The candidates shortlisted for the first stage of CAP will be around 10 to 12 times of the actual intake for the 2018-20 batch of each of these 9 IIMs.

Around 12000 candidates are expected to be called against the 2000 seats. You may also receive calls from multiple of these 9 IIMs based on the shortlisting criteria and cutoffs. Each of these IIMs will send the list of shortlisted candidates to IIM Rohtak.

IIM Rohtak will then consolidate the list of all participating IIMs and prepare a final list of candidates to be called for CAP 2018. IIM Rohtak inform these candidates by calling them.

Post receiving the call, you will need to specify your choice for the CAP center, and visit there to go through the WAT and PI stages. Based on your performance in the WAT and PI rounds, IIM Rohtak will prepare the list of scores and share with all the participating 9 IIMs.

Those 9 IIMs will then issue their own final admission list post assessing the CAT score, CAP score and profile of the candidates. The IIMs will finally send you the admission offer which you will need to accept and join the institute by the specified date.

Dates and Exam Centers of CAP 2018

The CAP 2018 will be carried out for the mentioned new IIMs once after declaration of CAT 2017 results. The CAT 2017 results will be declared in the third week of January 2018. Each of the specified new IIMs will shortlist candidates based on their individual cutoffs.

The candidates shortlisted for CAP 2018 will be informed immediately after the results declaration. Those candidates will be shared with the CAP 2018 dates.

CAP 2018 will be carried out for a month from around mid-February 2018 to the second week of March 2018. The CAP 2018 centers will be at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

Indeed, it will be very prestigious if you are given a chance to get a seat even in a newer IIM. The provision of CAP with the new IIMs allow many candidates with lower CAT scores to get a seat at an IIM. Good luck ahead!
