UGC approves new proposal students now can pursue two degree courses together
Today morning University Grants Commission approves a new proposal that Students can now pursue two-degree courses simultaneously.
After this approval now, students will be able to pursue the two degree courses simultaneously in the same stream or from the different streams.
However, one of the two degrees will have to be through regular mode and the other has to be through online distance learning (ODL).
UGC Secretary Rajnish Singh Said that the proposal was approved in the recent commission meeting for simultaneous dual degrees for students in India, allowing students to complete courses in the same or different streams at the same time. One of the two degrees, however, has to be through regular mode and the other has to be through online distance learning.
He also said that the official notification/statement regarding this would be issued soon.
As per the committee, since there is a minimum attendance criterion attached to the regular degree programmes the second degree has to be through distance or online mode.
In the year 2012, UGC set up the committee regarding the two degree course and was examining the issue but at that time, the idea was junked.
The UGC committee feels that this will offer better career opportunities. Students may also opt for the different courses from the same institution, providing it offers multiple modes of learning.
