List of scholarships, fellowships on Jawaharlal Nehru

Children’s Day or the birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru is celebrated on November 14 to dedicate a day to children or the future of the nation. As a tribute to Nehruvian ideologies, several varsities offer scholarships and fellowship programmes for meritorious students. 
These scholarships and fellowships are still providing a chance to students across the country and Asian counterparts to pursue a quality education. Here is a look at the list of scholarships named after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru that you can avail too:

Jawahar Lal Nehru memorial fund scholarship


The scholarships are available for meritorious students from economically weaker families in India and other Asian countries to pursue PhD studies here. Candidates can apply for scholarships in Indian History and Civilisation, Sociology, Comparative Studies in Religion and Culture, Economics, Geography, Philosophy, Ecology and Environment.

Eligibility: A candidate needs to possess a postgraduate degree with a minimum of 60 per cent marks at both graduate and postgraduate level from a recognised university/ institution in India. The candidates’ age should be less than 35 years. 
The duration of the scholarship is for a period of two years. Candidates will get a monthly allowance of Rs 18,000 per month including Rs 15,000 per annum for purchase of books, stationery, study tours.

Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowships

Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowships is open to scholars in every discipline — the sciences as well as humanities. The candidates are chosen by a selection committee and have complete freedom to work at places of their choice within India.

The candidates will get a monthly stipend of Rs 1,00,000 per annum including Rs 75,000 per annum for travelling, secretarial assistance. 


Fulbright-Nehru Master’s fellowships

The Fulbright-Nehru Master’s fellowships provide assistance to students to pursue a master’s degree in the United States (US). The fellowships are provided in the areas of arts and culture management, economics, environmental science/ studies, higher education administration; international affairs; international legal studies; public administration; public health; urban and regional planning; and women’s studies/gender studies. 


Eligibility criteria: Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian university equivalent to degree programme in the US. The candidates need to possess at least 55 per cent marks in a bachelor’s degree programme.

The fellowship will provide a J-1 visa, round-trip economy class air travel from the home city to United States, funding for tuition and fees, accident and sickness coverage as per US government guidelines.

Chacha Nehru Scholarship for Artistic and Innovative Excellence

Provided by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in music, dance, visual arts and theatre to schoolchildren who had participated in national camps organised by National Bhawan. A scholarship of Rs 500 per month for a period of four years will be provided till the student completes class 12.
